In the world of tourism, the word “resources” risks becoming a simplification that betrays the authentic nature of those who work every day in hospitality. At ITHIC 2025, the President of TH Group, Graziano Debellini, chose to reaffirm a concept that in its apparent simplicity carries the weight of a cultural statement:
«I would like to stop calling them human resources. Let’s say people. Because it is they who transformed a group of adventurous young people into the leading leisure company in Italy.»
In his speech, TH Group president Graziano Debellini drew attention to an often overlooked aspect of the sector: tourism is not built only through investments, strategies, and industrial plans, but above all through human relationships. It is made of glances, daily gestures, listening. Hospitality — he emphasized — is not a procedure nor a protocol, but an attitude acquired in the field, working alongside those who welcome and serve. A profession born from the heart even before skills.
And here opens a typically Italian contradiction. Despite being one of the country’s most solid and relevant industries, capable of generating economic value and professional opportunities, tourism continues to be perceived as a second-rate sector. A sector often described lightly, and rarely recognized for its real importance.
Debellini said it without beating around the bush:
«Let’s be clear: we treat tourism as a minor sector, when it moves hundreds of billions. But woe to recognize it: it almost seems we prefer to snub the only industry we really have.»
At the core of his appeal is a shift in perspective: restoring dignity to work in tourism means recognizing the value of the people who make it possible. It means valuing those who, every day, contribute to building travel and hospitality experiences that distinguish Italy in the world.
Ultimately, putting people back at the center means imagining a future where hospitality is no longer perceived as a marginal vocation, but as a national heritage to be proud of.
